The victim, identified as 31-year-old Borja, suffered catastrophic injuries when a shark tore flesh from his leg. Surgeons amputated the leg following severe blood loss before airlifting him to Male.
Local reports suggest the attack may be linked to waste disposal issues at a nearby fish processing plant. Sharks in the area typically feed on processing waste, and the disruption may have left them more aggressive.
